AC/DC rocked its way to the top of the US sales charts, as the band's latest studio offering, "Black Ice," racked up first-week sales of more than 780,000 copies.

The new album, which is being sold in the US exclusively through Walmart and Sam's Club locations, as well as online at walmart.com, samsclub.com and the band's website, sold an estimated 193,000 copies on its day of release, according to Billboard.
Although Billboard hasn't officially released its chart stats for the current week, nothing is expected to top AC/DC's sales figures for the new set, which also represents the quickest-selling album for Walmart this year, according to a press release.

The retailer set up "AC/DC Rock Again Store" mini-stores within all of its outlets to hype "Black Ice," featuring AC/DC-branded clothing, DVDs, music and even video games; the "AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack" will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 starting Nov. 2, with the Wii version arriving Nov. 6.

According to AC/DC's camp, "Black Ice" will debut at No. 1 in 29 countries this week. More than 5 million copies of the album have been shipped worldwide.

The flurry of AC/DC-related activity comes just ahead of the band's looming US tour, which kicks off tonight (10/28) in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The trek is set to visit US cities from coast to coast as well as a couple of Canadian provinces through late January. Stops include two-night stands in New York City; Rosemont, IL; Oakland, CA; and the Los Angeles area.

The group played a "final dress rehearsal" Sunday (10/26) in Wilkes-Barre before an audience made up of industry figures and thousands of contest winners, with a 13-song set touching briefly on material from the new album before segueing into the group's deep catalog of classic rock hits.

Dates for the tour, most of which are already sold out, are displayed below. The group plans a European trek stretching from February through April following the US outing. Those dates can be found at AC/DC's official website.

wal mart, best buy and circuit city don't do special orders for cd's because they aren't a music store. if you need a twisted sister release or any band for that matter that you don't see in any store best bet is to go to your local mom and pop music store or and actual music store and they will order it. barnes and noble also carries cd's and does special orders that normally arrive within a week of ordering.

as for ac/dc's black ice. its about 3 songs too long. chop off 3 songs and its a classic. i like it though. best album since razor's edge for sure and other than razor's edge best ac/dc album since the early 80's. blavk ice is a wal mart only release

Picked up a copy of Black Ice at Wal*mart. Blast the hell out of that album from my car. So far my favorite song is "Runaway train". Although the song could have been named "Runaway Freight Train" in my opinion.

Yes - I have to say I like this one a lot - best in a long time - IMHO. My personal favorites are War Machine and Big Jack. Can't wait to catch them live - if they figure out where the road to the North is!!

I tried to purchase a ticket for the Rotterdam gig but tickets (60 euro's) could only be bought online. Within 10 minutes the gig was sold out. And now you can buy tickets on the internet but they cost about 200 euro's (aproximately 300 US dollars). It's now 18 years ago since I last seen them play but that probably was also the last time because that's just to much money in the first place and second it goes to the wrong people.

Yes - seemingly they are restricting the tickets to 2 per person to stop touting, but it seems to me that it has made it harder for ordinary fans to get tix. Even the official ticket agencies are getting in on the act - did a search on 'Ticket-ba5tard' ............ they don't have any tickets at face-value (£40) but funnily enough they can get tickets for the same show for anything from £181 - £314!!!!!

Not only that but they've only booked 4 dates in the UK (all Southerly venues) and that with a band with 3 out of 5 born in Newcastle and beyond!!

My travelling fund has been rather stretched this year so won't support us going to a show down south plus tix at that price.

Marty = good call.

I love /DC. My first show - For those about to Rock way back in 1982.

But if this "is the last tour" then you would have thought - they would do a Newcastle and a few SECC at Glasgow - since Malcolm/Angus emigrated from there and Johnson is a Toone lad.

Unless there are more dates .... I reckon a Donington (Download) or a festival appearance or two might happen.

I thought £50.00 was excessive, but hell - I ain't paying those Ticket bar steward "sponsored websites" or tout prices.

Greedy middlemen and corporate rock crap ....

It's only rock n' roll - but I like it!
