Anyone pick up a copy of Chinese Democracy yet? It just went on sale today exclusively at Best Buy stores. I'm gonna pick me up one after the Cowboy's game.

i got it. one of the best albums i've heard in years. the production is outstanding and while there is no true breakout hit (that my ears hear but hey the public might like one of the songs more than me) there aren't any songs as weak as some of the use your illusion fillers. overall i'd say this is the 2nd best guns n roses album right behind appetite for destruction

I only heard 3 songs. A couple months a go a buddy sent me "Better", "This I Love..." and "If the World...". I've had time to absorb them and "Better" is the best of the bunch. I can't imagine purchasing the album unless I hear at least 3 or 4 songs are as good or better than "Better". Only time will tell.

i think "catcher in the rye" and "street of dreams" are the 2 best songs on the album if that helps

All I can say is that I am kinda disappointed with this new hyped album. {although I did hear the unfinished version when it leaked about a year ago} Guess I am too used to the "ole skool" G&R, it really is far from that, too far for me. Very different. I will give it a few more whirls though and see if I can figure it out, seems like he can't find a balance, it's confusing.

hey, that's not a bad idea at all, but I first want to go to a record shop and listen it...
just for being sure, and if i like it, I may get the rest of the people in there go buying it as well...
hope they won't go fighting, since nowdays they haven't got that much copies in store...

oh, Do you get a can soda with it? I heard something about a good deal with DR. Pepper, I like to make a poor homeless person really happy with it, since I don't drink the stuff...

I got the CD and I must say that it is truly different from the GnR sound that I had got used to back in the 80's and 90's. I am not slagging the album as there are some very good songs, but I guess that I am still old school GnR or perhaps I miss Slash, Duff and the rest. Music wise it is a good effort though, even though I cannot understand why it took 14 years

It's Axl and his band, I can't get it out of my mouth either calling Axl's new band GN'R, becouse I miss a couple of bandmembers of Guns that aren't in that band anymore...
Guns 'N Roses to me was The total band, to me it wasn'yt that Axl made Guns, It was specially the piano lyrics and Guitars and drums that made me fall for them... and than came Axl's voice... Sorry but it just is like what made me fall and feel for em...
But it doesn't say I don't like Axl's and his new bands music...

"......AND THEN CAME AXL'S VOICE"?????????????

Piano? They didn't even have piano on Appetite. And it was about 4 years until their next LP when piano really surfaced. Drums?? Who the hell can tell who's bangin away half the time??? They even changed hands a couple times.

Without a doubt Slash was key. But to say "It was specially the piano lyrics and Guitars and drums that made me fall for them... and than came Axl's voice." Well, without calling you crazy, that's just nuts.

Axl & Slash were undoubtedly the dominant faces of GNR. Love Duff and Izzy! They were killer characters and seemed to compliment A & S perfectly. Adler was another personality and fit the bill till Matt replaced him.

I think GNR was one of those bands that possessed a rare magic... talent and charisma across the board. They were one for all and all for one(Crue was another band that had their own kind of magic too). The focal point was naturally on Axl but only a tad bit more than Slash all the while without leaving anyone in shadows. Slash overshadowed Izzy but Izzy seemed comfortable in this role and unbothered by it. And that made him cool as shit.

So definitely it's hard to label this group that released "Chinese Democracy" as GNR. But if only Slash was to be in it also then it might be a different story.

Let me see....
If Duff and Izzy put out an album, or Slash and Sorum/Adler or Duff, Adler and Izzy, it would probably still feel less right to call them GNR...Until you throw Axl in the mix. Having Axl is probably the most important piece.

If Slash was in this "Axl band" labeling them as GNR would feel a lot more comfortable.

Anyway, that's my take on it.

It's Guns'n'Roses because if it was an Axl solo effort the marketing support would be less, the sales will be less, and the venues he plays will be smaller. Look at almost any rock musician and see what level they play at without the band...Snider, Dickinson, Slash, makes no odds on the talent.

As for it taking 14 years to make, that's no suprise. It takes Axl about that long to get his arse on stage even. Ask most people about a G'n'R show and they'll tell you how the support band were great and they played for 3 hours solid. Axls' only ever ready to hit the stage after the last bus home has been and gone.

G'n'R are one of those bands who should have quit after Appetite - that album would have been the new "Never Mind The Bollocks".

actually you can easily find demo's from the AFD album and songs from 1987-1989 that have tons of piano. don't cry and november rain were written before AFD was ever made

I don't doubt it, but it doesn't matter. Destruction was released in 87....99% didn't know who they were, nevermind hearing demos.

So you identify with piano over his voice? That's incredible.

this was imo one of the best albums of 2008. i've never heard production this good and the songs have taken hard rock in a new direction. i hope to hear more from the new GNR
