TWISTED SISTER's Under The Blade' To Be Reissued As Lavish CD/DVD Package - May 4, 2011
Eagle Rock Entertainment will release the landmark metal debut of 1982, "Under The Blade" by TWISTED SISTER, on May 31. The CD — originally produced by Pete Way of UFO — will also contain four tracks from their 1982 "Ruff Cuts" EP (never before available on CD) as well as "Shoot 'Em Down", an '82 live track from England's prestigious Reading Festival. The lavish package features the original "Under The Blade" cover, which has not appeared on any domestic versions of the album until now, and reflects the original Secret Records track list and remastered audio mix.

The DVD contains the entire previously-unreleased Reading concert. Vocalist Dee Snider, guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, bassist Mark Mendoza and drummer A.J. Pero gave the crowd something they had not exactly ever seen before. It was, for all intents and purposes, a coming-out affair for this great band. They play as if their life depends upon it. They play as if they have something to prove. And they did. They're young, hungry, determined and wind up headbanging with a desperate ferocity usually reserved for those kinds of life-altering performances that make a band. This is one of those performances. The set concludes with a show-stopping version of "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll" as the band jams out with Pete Way and MOTÖRHEAD's Fast Eddie Clarke and Lemmy! The DVD also includes 40 minutes of newly shot interviews with the band about the recording of "Under The Blade" and the Reading Festival.

French joined the band SILVER STAR, a New Jersey-based "glitter band" in December 1972. The group, whose original purpose was to be the New Jersey version of the NEW YORK DOLLS, changed their name to TWISTED SISTER on Valentine's Day 1973. The band, however, continually changed lineups and didn't take off until Snider joined in 1976. The lineup didn't fully coalesce until 1982 with the final addition of drummer A.J. Pero.

"Under The Blade" first came out on an independent U.K.-based label called Secret Records, but really gained momentum when Atlantic Records released a different mix of the album nationally in 1985 while taking advantage of the bands newly minted stardom. Their meteoric ascent came in tandem with the simultaneous rise of MTV. This version you now have in your hands is the most requested and sought after. The new digital remastered original mix of "Under the Blade".

CD track listing:

01. What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You)
02. Bad Boys (Of Rock 'n' Roll)

Awesome! Been waiting for this! It's a little interesting that the article states that it will have the original artwork from the Secret Records release but the picture in the article is the US remastered version. Either way, can't wait for this one. Just checked Amazon and it's not listed there. Hopefully they'll get it on there soon.

While excited, I miss the days of albums. I'll never forget the day when I bought Ruff Cutts at Record World. There was nothing like holding that album in your hands while the record was playing!

Yeah, it's got the US re-issue cover from '85 shown on Amazon. Hopefully it's actually the original cover as stated in the write up. I'm going to assume that this is it though, since it's listed as having 2 discs.

Is anybody else ridiculously excited about the Reading '82 DVD? FINALLY... a pro-shot video from '82. Now I'm just wondering when the Northstage '82 video will be released which Mark and Jay Jay posted about on here 1 year ago.

Count me in! I can't wait!!!!! The remaster will be great to hear but the real reason I'll picking up my 9th version (I'm not kidding about that! I counted them! LOL!) of "Under the Blade" is because of this DVD!

Oh My God!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just taken delivery of this album/DVD today.

Could not wait to view the Reading footage as I had waited forever and a day to see it after hearing how legendary a performance this was. I was so excited it was almost like hearing them again for the first few times like when I saw them on the Tube and Top Of The Pops TV shows in England back in the day. I absoloutely loved it. You could tell that the band really put their all into this performance, they absoloutely slayed the crowd and it was fantastic to see the footage of Dee actually asking the audience out backstage for all the non believers. The track listing is great and shows you just how good UTB was as a debut album bar the production. Talking of production considering when this was filmed the remastering on the sound and picture quality is excellent. Hats off to those responsible.

On a seperate note I watched this DVD with my two year old daughter "Zoe" and it was truly a moment to savour as I sang all the words back to her and got her to punch the air and say "I like it" several times during It's only Rock'N'Roll. I almost had a tear in my eye as I told her all the bands names and for some reason she genuinely refered to Dee Snider as "Jesus"!!? She loved it and kept repeating the words "This is your favourite band Daddy isn't it? You can't buy moments like that!!
She even recognised the TS logo when I logged onto the slamboard. What a proud moment.

Long Live Rock 'N' Roll.

Paul Dee , Leeds.

The only question I have is this:
Since "I'll Never Grow up Now" is missing as a bonus track, are we going to get a remaster of the 1985 re-release of the album at some point?

Love the Reading concert. The bonus interviews on the disc were a welcome surprise.
Can't wait for the next DVD release in a few months.

Anybody wanna buy my Ruff Cuts 12" before its value drops? ;-)
(Only joking. I'll never part with that)

What can I say - brilliant ..... this is just for the cd - haven't had chance to look at dvd yet.

MY vinyl copies of Ruff Cuts and the Secret Records of UTB - are very much used and abused.
So great to have cd copies of them.

I remember listening to Tommy Vance's The Friday Rock Show (RIP TV) when they broadcast bits of this set - and I was in HM/TS heaven.
Great mastering by the lads.

I don't have this release yet, Paul, but as for the above sentiment, agreed.  I can get my two year old to throw up her fist and say "Rock" during the I Wanna Rock refrain.  And while I can prompt her by asking "Are you gonna take it?" every now and again, just of her own will, she'll break into the chorus of We're Not Gonna Take It.  Priceless.

Best,
CG

For those in NYC, J&R has copies. I got mine yesterday and my order with Amazon is being shipped.

I watched the DVD last night and listened to the CD this morning at work. AMAZING DVD, Excellent. You finally get to see how good this band was/is on a DVD. Nothing is like a live TS show. These guys were out of control, a truly amazing show. This is the type of show i remember from the club days, this is the type of show that made this band a household name.

The interviews are great, now i know how to increase milk and egg production from cows and chickens. I learned what Mark's base does to horses
Great stories from all the guys, you see how much they wanted this first record to be made and what a journey it was to get it done. You learn what happen at the festival what the objects that landed on stage were and where they landed, some very funny items.

The re-master of the CD is wonderful, the songs sound great.

Everyone involved should be proud of this work effort the CD, DVD and interviews. It really proofs what a class act this band really is. Thank you for putting this together for all of us. I'm looking forward to the other CD/DVD's

OMG - this is sheer unbelievable !!!!! Having only ever had the chance to listen to that show before it's so great to actually SEE that performance now. What a historical document. The band is absolutely ON FIRE. I have never seen a band so determined to win over a crowd that' not theirs and to see how they actually succeeded in the end is second to none. Twisted Sister definitely was (and still is) the only band on this planet who could've done that, so from me.................hats off 29 years later ;-).

There's just one thing I'm wondering: did Dee's introduction/rant before "Shoot 'em down" get cut out ? I would have to dig out my tape of that show to be sure but maybe someone here on the board knows. I'm quite sure that it was Reading, where Dee dedicated this song "....to the British soldiers who fought in the Falklands and........*censored*....." If they actually did cut this out I would understand because they are quite big in the South American countries these days but maybe I'm also wrong and it was another show. Does anyone know for sure ????

OK, time to go and put the DVD in again :-)

Take care

Hi Dan,

how are you, my friend ? It's been quite a while, huh ?

Thanks for your confirmation, I'm glad to see that I'm not totally demented yet ;-). I totally understand the reasons for omitting this on the DVD even though I would say - that was then and now is now - the world has become a different one and also opinions definitely have changed since then, but so what...................the band decided to keep this out of the DVD and we'll have to accept that. I can live very well with a 99% complete performance of that show. I just wish I had been there...............

Stay sick, stay twisted

Finally seen the DVD - thanks everyone for letting us have this.
Obviously Wrexham 82 was the band's debut performance - but this performance (recorded by the BBC and put out on Tommy Vance's The Friday Rock Show) really put the band on the map.

Love the backline roadies - they were Secret Records employees or Expolited backline guys - they are wearing TS shirts but have English punk mohawk hairstyles :-) :-)

Love the interviews - the rider - the English sandwiches, the kebabs and the "hamburgers". Also the Battle, barn recording memoirs.

The cd is still is in the car - and will be blasting all the way up to Download next weekend :-)

The cd is still is in the car - and will be blasting all the way up to Download next weekend :-)

I noticed the punk guys in TS t-shirts, too! Great! The interviews were awesome and the stories were great but I lost it when Eddie started talking about the "Butt Biscuits", I lost it!!! Friggin' hilarious!!! I've actually been to Battle many times. My wife's family lives in Hastings just south of there. I might have to see if I can find that barn on my next trip to England. LOL!!!!

I honestly had not listened to UTB in quite some time but the remastering gave it some new life and I've been listening to it non-stop for the last 2 days. Give it a listen.

What You don't Know is the only song from Ruff Cutts that's not on Club Daze Vol I. The remaster of Under the Blade is great.

I'm saving this one for Xmas! I never know what to ask for and it's perfect. I remember as a kid getting "Come Out and Play" under the tree. How fun to relive tearing open a gift to find TS once again! :D

seems this CD?DVD is selling well at least at J&R in Manhattan. I got my copy on May 31 from J&R and there were a bunch of copies in the store. After i received my order from Amazon this week, i needed a few more copies for a party this weekend, and stopped by J&R and i took the last 3 copies off the shelf. I hope it's selling well everywhere. It's truly AMAZING. The CD sounds great, the DVD is GREAT...the interviews put it over the top. Makes you proud to be an SMF Thank you guys

The remaster sounds superb , nice job , it gave it new life.
The dvd was awsome and legendary .and the interviews was funny, intresting and very twisted.
Tanks to TS for releasing stuff like this.

Looking forward to northstage , christmas in the middle of summer :-)

6 months??? Come on, that's nothin. How about the 87-01...14 years between TS shows. Time flies like a bitch and Xmas will be here before ya know it. And plus, it's not like I don't already have these songs.

Only on "Shoot Em Down" was "Fucking" always quieted down. Yet "Tear It Loose" announces the word proudly!
