Well. I've taken delivery of this today and watched the Northstage DVD already.
Guys. This is AMAZING stuff. To have a "club" gig in such great quality is an unbelievable dream come true. It's an awesome concert and the sound is fantastic
NY Steel - not watched it yet. Got to wait until tomorrow now as the volume will annoy the neighbours at this time of night (yeah, I know, screw 'em). Again. Always wanted to see this since you performed, what with it being one of the most important gigs you've ever done. SO glad you took the decision to film it at the last minute.

Back to the Northstage DVD. Love the inclusion of the video footage of the other drummers in the documentary. What's the chance of these getting released as part of an "Anthology" type boxset, or, if the quality isn't deemed good enough (there's no sound on these clips, so I've no idea), how about website exclusive downloads that we can buy?
You know, like everyone else here, I'm a fan and I'll buy any concert that's good sound and video, even if it's mono and single camera - these are historical records that should be seen and heard!

Anyway. I'll tell you how I like "The Show" so far...
Remastered albums and 3 new live DVD concerts this year, all on the back-end of the last couple years worth of DVD releases, new recordings and demos....
How do I like it?
I LOVE IT!!!!!!

So what's next? ;-)

Cheers guys. I hope the ride ain't over yet.
David

I agree.Along with the Reading footage this is THE release of the year so far for me. Simply stunning!!!! I agree with the post about the silent footage with the other drummers.Would love to see these get released as well. What do you think Jay Jay? The only thing again I think that would make it a problem releasing the footage(along with any quality issues) would be what if any cover songs were performed. Any other thoughts SMFS?

I got my copy in the mail from Amazon yesterday as well, and had a chance to watch the North Stage DVD, and I have to agree completely with your post. It was fantastic to see a "club" setlist, and the sound and video footage are awesome.

One funny note is when Dee says that "You Can't Stop Rock and Roll" will definitely be on the album. I wonder why they decided not to put it on Under the Blade, and instead waited another year. Anyway, worked out in the end, as I love the fact that it's Twisted Sister's first video and if it was on that album it probably wouldn't have been used for a video, as I doubt Secret records had any budget for videos.

Anyway, fantastic video and I'm looking forward to watching the NY Steel show tonight.

Thanks TS for this awesome package, and can't wait to see you guys in Quebec City!

Here is a review of the double DVD

http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/twistedsisterdoublelive.php

The Charge
Burn in Hell all Metalhead Poseurs—this is the REAL DEAL!
The Case
Twisted Sister were always their own worst enemy. After developing a huge cult following in the bar scene in and around their native New York, they became metal fixtures based on the same pseudo-gimmick that made KISS (and today, Slipknot) household names. The drag act, the female inspired clothing and get-up worn by Dee Snider (lead singer), Mark Mendoza (bass), AJ Pero (drums), Jay Jay French (rhythm guitar) and Eddie Ojeda (lead guitar) turned what was always an amazing group of musicians into a novelty. Even worse, the eventual MTV-ing of their persona placed them square in a domain that was part dopey, part homage (to Animal House, more than anything else) and part power. Today, the reunited quintet call themselves the Iron Men of Rock N Roll. Three decades ago, little about their persona would suggest such a macho tag. Still, they were a fantastic band, even better live, as showcased by this delightful two disc set.

Offering true Twisted Sister rarities, Double Live begins before the band were international superstars. Their 90 minute show at the North Stage Theater in Long Island would be considered by many to be their "farewell"—from the club/bar scene, that is. The group was scheduled to head off to Europe shortly thereafter and record their first LP (1982's Under the Blade). Honed to perfection and sonically skin tight, this version of Sister was a true music machine, even if only the most devoted fan would recognize the set list. Absent are later mega-hits like "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock." In their place are cover versions of "Leader of the Pack" (always a weird selection for Snider and the boys) and the Rolling Stones "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)." Along the way, we get terrific takes on "What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You)," "Bad Boys of Rock 'n' Roll,," "Shoot 'em Down" and "You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll," among others. Aficionados will really enjoy rarities like "Lady's Boy" and "Destroyer."

It's not hard to see why Sister were pumped and prepared for their future. They are DAMN good here. Snider's frontman chops are flawless, and Ojeda and French are a formidable guitar duo. The direction is slightly pedestrian, consisting of either a long shot of the entire band, center stage, or random (and often out of focus) close-up shots. There is no real complaint with the presentation per se. The music more than makes up for the lack of visual panache. The same can be said for the New York Steel show. Masterminded by rock DJ Eddie Trunk (of VH-1 Classic's That Metal Show fame) and featuring other seminal New York acts like Anthrax and Ace Frehley, the concert was set-up as a benefit for the victims of 9/11. With venue promoters desperate for a hook to sell tickets, the idea was floated of getting Twisted Sister back together. Considering the huge amount of animosity when the band broke up, and the fact that they hadn't played together in over 13 years, it seemed like a crapshoot.

Luckily, the band's love of America and the cause saw them put aside their differences and make an appearance. The 80 minute showcase would lead to an eventual full blown reunion, a recommitment to music that exists to this day. While a little rough around the edges (Snider in particular has some so-so vocal moments), the chance to see the band again after over a decade in exile is exciting. This time around, we get more recognizable fare, with "The Kids Are Back," "Stay Hungry," "S.M.F." and the two previously mentioned hits in tow. Once they get past the obvious stage fright and jitters, the group settles in nicely, Snider doing his best to wave the flag (even wearing a hilarious spangled "F*ck Osama" vest during the set. Sans make-up, looking older and meaner, this version of Twisted Sister truly earns the moniker "Iron Men." Even after a long time out of the limelight, they still rule the metal roost they helped define in the early '80s.

As for the overall presentation here, the DVDs are quite good. North Stage is presented in a 1.33:1 full screen image that is clean, clear, if slightly muddled at times. Remember, this was recorded before video became a solid HD medium. We are getting an upgraded camcorder showcase, nothing more or less. Still, it looks great. So does the 1.79:1 anamorphic transfer offered for New York Steel. While the stage set-up is sparse (no large light show, no pyrotechnics) and the visuals less than flattering, the presentation element matches the music—lean, mean, and more than acceptable. As for the aural aspects, fans might be angry over a pure Dolby Digital Stereo only remaster. No multichannel choice of 5.1 immersion. At least the added content makes up for the lack of pure sonic bliss. We get interview documentaries accompanying each show, the band today discussing the particulars of each gig in an open and honest Behind the Music kind of confessional. There is also a stills gallery accompanying the New York Steel show, as well as DVD cover art essays from Trunk and French.

As a scrapbook of a band slowly reestablishing its classicism, Double Live is direct and delightful. Here is a chance to see Twisted Sister before they became a gaudy roadshow, and after they let fame fracture their brotherhood. A band as good as this deserves such a memento from their past. Luckily, their present seems destined for just as many accolades.
The Verdict
Not Guilty. Great band. Even better sonic souvenir.

Give us your feedback!
Did we give Twisted Sister: Double Live a fair trial? yes / no

Seems to me we're getting better releases this year than we did even back in the day - I spent last night ripping the show audios so I can listen on my iPod when I'm away from home. Reading, North Stage & US Steel are all very high quality releases, it's great to get some key show footage without feeling it's been compromised in some way. Thanks to JEDMA (love it!) for the attention to detail here.
Now bring on an official Marquee release and I'll be a happy man.

I'd love to see the Odyssey Disco gigs with better sound (do they have soundboard copies?) and from the master tapes, REGARDLESS of whether they are crappy VHS or not.

After watching the interviews about the Northstage show i think I've come to the conclusion that is about as close to a club daze dvd as we will get. The reason for this I believe is this. We fans hold the band's days in the clubs in high regards, but it's apparent after watching the interviews that the band does not. No reason for them to bring back bad memories by going thru any more footage for future releases. Would I love to see it? Hell yes!!! I'm happy with this release and if this is all we ever get then I'll be satisfied!!!

The problem was the the 'club daze" went on too long (for me it went from March 1973 to December 1982) and, while you all were having a great time every night, we were dealing with one label rejection after another and having to fire too many members for drug and alcohol abuse. There were many nights that were fun. After all, we learned how to BE a band playing clubs. It just seemed that we were trapped and were never getting out.

Absolutely LOVE the Northstage dvd. Its great, as a fan from the UK, to be transported back in time to finally SEE how things were. Yeah, back in the day, i'd traded the audios of Mad Hatters, Zaffeys, Hammerheads etc , but to actually SEE a show in amazing video quality is a revelation. Way beyond my expectations. Thank you so much for releasing this.

Came home from work and found the Amazon box sitting on my doorstep. Convenient for sure but I still miss Tower Records. One of my big regrets was not seeing the band in clubs, being something of a child bride in those days. Finally got to see the band at the Felt Forum at the Garden and don't remember much of that due to drugs. I am truly enjoying this now! Thank you so much for this DVD! Awesome.

Thanks for the comments Jay Jay. The nearest thing I can think of to relate to you guys back then is to be stuck at one position at a job for a long time, waiting and working your butt off for a promotion, and then after a long time of it not coming, you start to feel like it's not going to happen. I sometimes wonder if you guys would've got signed a couple of years earlier what differences the band's career what have had.

Another review of the UTB CD/DVD & the Double Live DVD

http://washingtonexaminer.com/entertainment/music/2011/08/review-live-loud-3-rare-twisted-sister-shows

Review: Live, loud - 3 rare Twisted Sister shows
By: WAYNE PARRY | Associated Press | 08/08/11 3:23 PM
.
In this CD cover image released by Eagle Vision, a remastered version of Twisted Sister's first CD, "Under the Blade," is shown. Twisted Sister "Under The Blade (Remastered); "Double Live: North Stage '82 & New York Steel '01" (Eagle Vision)

Few heavy metal bands have ever prowled the stage with the ferocity and intensity of Twisted Sister, the New York bar band that conquered the world in the 1980s. But that was after years and years of slogging away in tiny clubs and faraway venues.

Those challenging shows, however, sharpened the band's edge, and showed them they could survive whatever fate — and fans — threw their way, sometimes literally. The remastered version of their first CD, "Under The Blade," includes a DVD of the band's performance at the 1982 Reading Festival in England, where the costumed glam rockers at first didn't exactly enthrall the crowd of bikers, leatherheads and assorted headbangers, who catapulted a veritable farmer's market of produce, beer cups and unmentionables at the band members as they performed.

Yet Dee Snider, brandishing a real machine gun and firing it into the air, showed the crowd Twisted Sister was not intimidated, challenging anyone who was so inclined to meet him next to the stage after the show for a fight.

That kind of American, in-you-face attitude slowly won over the crowd. And by the time the 40-minute set drew to a close with a surprise all-star jam of Motorhead's Lemmy, Fast Eddie Clarke and Pete Way, Twisted Sister had truly won over one of the toughest audiences it ever had to face.

A far friendlier hometown crowd loses its mind for Twisted on the first half of a double DVD called "Double Live." The show at Long Island, N.Y.'s North Stage Theater shows Twisted just before they got on a plane to England to record their first album. It includes many chestnuts from the club days that have rarely, if ever, been performed since, including "Lady's Boy," Dee Snider's ode to a young man whose proficiency with the opposite sex far outstripped his age, their cover of The Shangri-Las hit "Leader Of The Pack," the anthemic "I'll Never Grow Up Now," and the even rarer "Rock 'N' Roll Saviours" to close the show.

In 2001, having been apart for years, the band reunited at the request of heavy metal radio host Eddie Trunk for a benefit concert to raise money for the widows and children of New York City police and firefighters killed in the World Trade Center attacks. Named "New York Steel," it brought the band back together for a reunion that was envisioned to last about three years, but continues a decade later. This disc also includes some goodies for old-school fans, including probably their most underrated song ever, "Come Back," and the epic dual-guitar-jam "You Know I Cry."

I've watched the NY Steel and Northstage DVD a few times since the Tuesday release date and i have to say the shows are phenomenal.....These are amazing shows, the band looks and sounds great. Watching the Northstage show, reminds you how good Jay Jay, Eddie, Mark and AJ play, how good Dee is as a singer and showman. What a command the band had of the audience and how great this band really is. The NY Steel show brings back great memories of the friends and family I went to the show with that night. Just the thought of eating dinner before the show in Manhattan so close to the date of the attacks. What a great show it was, and i really appreciate it being released on DVD show i can share it with my kids who were just babies at the time. All the bands were great that night but TS was truly AMAZING.

If you don't have this DVD go out and get it, BUY It.

How about the Caldaron show and the two shows at the Palladium being released on DVD?

Jay Jay thanks for the response. That's to bad, all three were amazing shows. I seem to remember there were free ear plugs before the show and police offices on horseback when we exited the Caldaron show. I think i have the article from the NY Post before the first Palladium show, and the show playbill. Great memories of great shows

Finally picked up the Double Live DVD and I must say it is a damn good, quality product. Not only for the footage (Lady's Boy Live??? Hell Yes!!!) but the outer case, the sharp graphics on the discs and disc menus are clean and professional! Keep up the good job on these "vault" releases TS!!!

Not to rub it in but, You are missing out on two amazing shows. Write something nice about your mailman/mailwoman in the local paper, maybe they will deliver your mail faster.

One advantage to living in NYC, you can order online, but when you really want something, just walk into J&R music and pick up a few copies for you and your friends.

I would offer to mail you a copy but then it would be stuck in the same postal system as the one you ordered.

Hope you get it soon. Can't wait to hear your review

thanks George.....
I made the mistake of ordering it thru Barnes & Noble (I have a gift card for them) instead of Amazon.

Can't WAIT to hear it!

In the meantime, I'm sitting here in Philadelphia airport, waiting on my plane....wish I could have flown in yesterday so that I could see the city. won't have any time for sightseeing this trip--will definitely have to come back to Quebec when I have more time.

I've been waiting for a 1982 pro-shot since, well....1982!
I don't mind at all that it's only 2 cameras, I'd rather have that instead of 25 cameras with angles changing every second. Seeing Dee with the lollipop, whip, on the bike wearing shades...classic! To finally have video of INGUN, LB, LOTP, YKIC, RARS is an old school dream. \m/ \m/ Gotta love the 1982 audience, all young, and just standing there fist banging and singing. I remember that's what it was like in those days.

I was at NY Steel in the lower balcony, and I'm assuming that WNGTI played the second time with Sebastian, Doro, Anthrax, Eddie Trunk, etc, was cut due to rights issues?

Finally received that DVD. Wow, what I can I say... I love it! That '82 show is smoking. What would I give to finally see "You know I cry" live in concert! Haven't seen the other show yet.

ATTN SMF's "Double Live" is now available at Best Buy. The North Stage show is exactly what everyone used to see in the clubs. After watching it, you will see why they were the Kings of the clubs. Like Jay said, it is hard to imagine clubs holding 1,ooo-5,000 people. Like The fountain Casino, The Factory, Hammerheads, and on a Wednesday night, T.S. would jam them in. Because of Twisted Sister, bands from all over the country, would come to New York to try to play that circuit. Twisted Sister raised the bar.
If you don't plan on buying the dvd, you are missing one of the most spot on performances they ever did. The sound is that Twisted Sound that the old time fans LOVE!
This is an important piece of Twisted History

When I watched North stage, all those great club days memories came flooding back. I love the fact that they got the "Front Row" girls in a lot of shots. They loyally were at ever single show. god bless them!!
I am always here, i just don't post often.
I would have more stories if I can only remember them!!!!

Because of the hurricane this weekend i lost my my cable service, so i broke out the Northstage and NY Steel DVD's and played them again. These are great shows for very different reasons, but make no mistake both shows are AMAZING. If you don't have a copy buy one, if you purchased the set and haven't watched them Watch them. Great memories, great times, great freinds......

A nice way to spend a day.

I was telling Marty that thank god the lights weren't on while i was bringing out the Harley for "leader of the pack" the stage was so wet from the fog from "Ladys boy", we had no fans to blow that shit off, Now remember , I was only 125 lbs then, I had so much trouble picking that bastard up, that when I finally got it rollin, i couldn't stop it. I was shitting in my pants and Mark came over and stopped it and put the kick stand down. If it wasn't for Mendoza, me and the bike were in the first row!

In the bard days Dee played guitar on "Fool for the City". T.S. did the song better than the originals. As usual!
