Twisted Sister will play the heavy Montréal festival on 10 August. i thinks they don't played there since 1987...
I hate festival but i thinks i will go.
I wonder why it took so long to announce twisted sister since the line up was already online for a long time.

Actually, they were last there in '84, opening for Iron Maiden.
I went the first year that Heavy MTL (the former name of the festival) took place when Iron Maiden headline. Pretty cool - two stages side by side so they alternate bands quickly. And the park is right on the subway line so easily accessible.

Mark, good to hear you're going. I'm planning on it too. Let's hook up.

1987 would have been the Love is for Suckers tour, which was a very brief tour due to the band splitting and never made it to Canada. Really the same for Come Out & Play. They had a Toronto date scheduled but it was cancelled. They finally came back to Toronto on the first tour for the Christmas album (2005 I think) but that was the only Canadian date for that tour that I recall. So yes, this would be the first time in Montreal since the Stay Hungry tour.

I don't know what you mean by it will be different with Metallica playing. Different from what? As for getting front row - good luck, not if you like your life. It is a big open grass area, general admission, no seats just standing. When I went to see Maiden, while I waited for them to come on, I was about "20 rows" from the stage. As soon as their intro music came on the audience started surging forward - quickly. I had two choices - be suffocated and trampled - or get the hell out of there. I took the latter option and watched from the side of the huge crowd!

it's what i don't like about festival. yeah i mean if they play before metallica it will not be possible to be front row. Metallica fans are crazy it's not like any other show that i saw...
I heard it was not that hard to get front when kiss played at this festival some years ago...
When i saw them for the first time it was at the summer festival in Québec city and they played Before Scorpions, there was no pushing and crazy shit... and i saw them again at the best buy theater in New York in 2011 (front row). and they played again in August 2011 in Québec city! was front row as well.

The Christmas show in Toronto was in December 2006. i remember it was after their show in Québec city.

New around here...

Twisted Sister's last Montreal show was November 27, 1984 at the Montreal Forum, opening for Iron Maiden. I remember it well, as I had just turned 13 and it was my first show. Talk about setting the bar high - the first live band I ever saw set foot on a stage was Twisted Sister!

The band opened for Dio, at the Verdun Auditorium, a few months before that, in August 1984 I believe.

I've been hoping TS would get booked to Heavy MTL for years, seeing that they are based in NYC, and it finally happened. I see the band is at a festival in Belgium the previous day, so I just pray there are no travel delays and the band gets into town OK.

The rumors for Heavy Montreal are that Slayer, Twisted Sister, and Exodus are playing Sunday (among others of course), and Metallica, Anthrax, and Voivod on Saturday.

August can't come soon enough. Bring a lot of merch guys!

Actually - now that you mention it, Twisted Sister DID open for Queensryche, in Montreal, at Le Spectrum. That would have been November 1983.

So, to the best of my recollection, TS has played here 3 times:

- early November 1983 w/Queensryche
- August 1984 w/Dio
- late November 1984 w/Iron Maiden.

That's it, that's all for Montreal, until this summer.

Don't know about the others, but Twisted Sister is definitely playing on Sunday the 10th. Which bums me out sort of….because I would have loved to see Metallica's show on the 9th….alas.

There have actually been rumors that Metallica might headline both nights. Montreal is their only North American stop this summer, and if they're in town, and the gear/backline is all there, might as well do both shows.

The bill is a little uneven with Metallica headlining one night, and either Slayer or TS the other (or maybe The Offspring, but still...).

I can't wait to see Dee and company. 30 years has been too long a wait for me! I hope they get a good hour long set and bring a good selection of merch.

it has been confirmed by the promotor that metallica won't play 2 night. there was confusion on their website cause they listed 9-10 August on their tour date . now it disapears...

The daily lineup has been announced. TS are playing Sunday the 10th (which we knew). They are third on the bill, with only Slayer and Lamb of God billed over them.

Metallica are headlining the Saturday show, with The Offspring and Anthrax as the other main acts that day.

I just bought my ticket for Sunday, so I'm definitely there for that day.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Body Count & Exodus, which are also both playing on Sunday.

Corey if you are going we should definitely plan to meet up and/or drive down together: My tentative plan was to use my Aeroplan points to fly Sunday morning, with a possible return flight to Toronto either that night and/or on Monday morning (as I'm heading on my own), but if you are interested in driving I could easily switch to driving there early Sunday and coming back on Monday.

Anyone know what time the show ends?

There's a 11:00 PM curfew, as technically the venue is a city operated park and near residences that can hear the noise from the events going on. Most years Heavy MTL has ended at 11:00 sharp both nights.

Getting out of the area where the show is is very difficult. I strongly suggest once in Montreal you take the metro, and don't try to fly out that night if you are staying at the show until the end.

Okay that's good to know. Sounds like regardless of whether I decide to drive or fly, I'll want to book a room in Montreal that night.
