Oh my babies, how thrilled I truly am to be in Athens, Greece! Just 2 days away from the next TS show, and although I have not yet spied the roadcrew or band, my appetite has been whetted by the Twisted Sister commercials that they have been running each night on the local networks!

It has been another emotional journey for me to come to beautiful Greece. As some of you know, I went to art school back in college before I found my true calling doing bioterrorism readiness and rock reporting (but not necessarily in that order)> They begin our background in art history with the cave paintings at Lascaux and then we spend a considerable amount of time studying Greek architecture. Essentially all of Europe and certainly almost all contemporary architecture globally started here in Greece. To stand before the Parthenon...the Acropolis....the ruins... it was overwhelming. The hoards of fellow tourists were a bit distracting but it was absolutely surreal to be witness to something that was once just a page in my textbooks and a few exam questions.

As is my preference, I am traveling the city on foot so that I can fully appreciate the sights, sounds and smells. And this in spite of my truly pathetic attempt at speaking the delightful and ancient Greek language (which essentially also gave us most of our vocabulary! Seriously. Check the etymologies of most words--Greek! After some coffee that would put hair back on my head (but regretfully has not kicked in yet) I spent approximately 6 hours touring the ruins in the scorching Mediterranean sun and then stopped a small cafe to chow down on the most exquisite Moussaka I have ever eaten. Joined in company by Alexsandro, a delightful and distinguished gentleman (and Commodore at the Athens Yacht Club--very impressive!) who told me some delightful travel tales of his own and was apparently quite entertained by the notion that I was eating the highly caloric Moussaka in the middle of a hot afternoon while everyone around me was dining on chilled salads and ice cream. [Note to SMF Cyndi-- the locals here started enjoying the ice cream as early as 10:00 am--I think you'd like it here] In true Armadillo form, I am determined to eat my way across Greece. Tomorrow-- Gyros for lunch! Souvlaki for dinner!

I finished off the day with a relaxing dip in the rooftop pool of the hotel, with the spectacular view of The Parthenon in the distance. I'm off tomorrow to explore the local scene once again but will hopefully be able to connect with SMF Marty and his entourage, and perhaps I'll even spot one of our other Twisted family as I trek about.

Know that I keep all of you, my Twisted brothers and sisters, close to my heart as I prepare to experience the greatest live heavy metal experience in Athens and bring directly to you, all the glorious details you're dying to hear about.... and plenty you don't.

Until the 12th my babies...
this is Armadillo...trotting off to find more delicacies!
