Also the excerpt on Twisted Sister:
and the personal highlight of the weekend: Twisted Sister, and Dee Snider’s inspired veteran trash-talking, rabble-rousing We Are All Five Original Members set.
The Astoria native and his NYC crew played the entire Stay Hungry album, denounced promoters and Canadian/American Idol wannabes, blew up We’re Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock and were the non-headliner highlight. It was … awesome, actually. In ye olden tymes, we would have used adjectives like “bracing” or “life-affirming.” So there they are.
Regarding Slayer and the rest of the festival, it was GREAT. Of course playing in the dark, and having 90 minutes, benefited Slayer, but they WERE really tight. A lot of good bands throughout the weekend, and different kinds of heavy music, but TS really shone through. | |
