Patrick, you were in Graz and we didn't meet up?

Is the pope catholic? Of course I was there. I said half a year ago that I would be there. You just should have checked the front row.

Patrick…so sorry...I'll change the report…but didn't you used to have a handle SMFfromGermany or was that a different Patrick?

Thanks and no. That must have been someone different.

Regarding whale grinds and Sea Sheperd:

I guess the difference is that cows and sheep are not taken out of the wild. They are specifically bred and raised for the purpose of providing meat (not saying that that is pretty and not equally horrible, just pointing out the difference). It's not the same as slaughtering whales, where whole families and ponds out of the wild are decimated, after first being herded together and driven to the shore (it's not like they wait for them to come to the shore) and them having to be present and witness one after one being slaugthered (I doubt it only takes 3 minutes until every whale of the herd is dead). And there are conflicting reports on whether that has an effect on the natural balance or not. Also I doubt that in this day and age any faroese person would starve if they would stop killing whales. Before the trade with foreign countries was possible, I agree, they had to take whatever they could get and what was readily available. But nowadays that is not an issue anymore. They have a choice. And tradition is a poor excuse (I too talked to one faroese person about that and that was his point. Even though he's not personally participating in hunting whales and seemed a bit on the fence about it, he still takes the whale meat he gets. I didn't further investigate that though.) And when whales supposedly are slaughtered to feed cats and dogs then I have a bit of a problem with it.

I like I said, I can see both point of views and both sides are using the arguments that supports their position and thus I probably do not know enough about it, but going by gut feeling, I'm against it. And as for being respectful towards the supporters, I also heard different things. But I guess there are bad apples on both sides. Whatever helps the respective cause.

I love marine life--and personally, I love whales--I would not opt to participate in killing one, but I'm also not a part of that culture. I would not tell a culture of people that have thrived for over 1000 years how they should live their lives.

Well, I get your point, but by that token you could also say it's okay that the japanese and asian and african cultures continue to hunt whales and sharks, kill tigers, elephants, rhinos and so on, because it's their tradition and culture and they need these animals for food, medicine and jewelry and to survive. And because we're not part of that culture, all of us should shut up and not bother them in what they are doing. I think that's making it a bit easy.
