DAVE LING - MUSIC JOURNALIST
http://www.daveling.co.uk/diary.htm

Friday 17th November
Ulp! Just received an advance promo of Twisted Sister's new 'Twisted Christmas' album (soon to be available via Demolition Records in the UK), and I'm virtually lost for words. It's quite, quite preposterous. They've done 'O Come All Ye Faithful' in the style of 'We're Not Gonna Take It', complete with cowbells. During 'On The First Day Of Christmas' they subsitute three French hens and the like with pairs of spandex pants, studded belts, quarts of Jack Daniel's and cans of hairpsray. Lita Ford duets with Dee Snider on 'I'll Be Home For Christmas', but it's all rendered odder still when you consider that 'Twisted Christmas' could well turn out to be Twisted Sister's last will and testament. Not exactly a glorious one. Far more up my own personal alley is the re-issue of the first two Trouble albums, 'Psalm 9' (1984) and 'The Skull' (1985). As part of the build-up for a brand new studio record from the Chicago-based white metal doomsters, Escapi Records have just expanded these two masterpieces, each with a bonus DVD disc. I simply cannot stop playing them.

Hope he didn't damage his tender sensibilities permanently. that would be simply unacceptable.

Dave needs to take some of that Music Journalist dough and buy himself a sense of humor, I think.

I sent Dave an e-mail asking him if he'd had a chance to listen to it a bit more...here's his response:

"It's very cleverly done, no doubt about it. But I still think that, to revive a term once memorably used by Dee Snider, "it sucks major moosecock"! - Dave"

TWISTED SISTER:

"That was the night before Christmas, and not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse". Bollocks to that, this year it's a Twisted Christmas!!! Twisted Sister return with a new studio album... With a difference. In between a grueling touring schedule, where they have headlined at most of the world's biggest festivals, they have managed to find enough time to record an album, in time for Christmas? so what else would you expect? Of course, an album of Christmas songs, done in the inimitable Twisted Sister style. Much loved songs like "Oh Come All You Faithful" and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" have been given the Twisted makeover, and they have been joined for a couple of songs by old friends: Lita Ford duets on "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and Doro Pesch lends her vocal talents to a great version of "White Christmas". But probably the highlight of the album has to be the re lyriced "12 Days of Christmas", entitled "Heavy Metal Christmas"... "on the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me a tattoo of Ozzy"!

Twisted Sister reformed in 2001, after working together on a number of projects such as recording a song for the Strangeland soundtrack (the film written, directed and starring Dee Snider) and the unusual step of recording an AC/DC cover for a Twisted Sister tribute album! In 2001, they performed at a benefit gig for the NYPD and FDNY Widows and orphans fund (after September 11th) and a number of shows for the US military. It wasn't until 2003, when Mark Mendoza rejoined the band, reuniting the classic lineup, and a storming headline performance at the Sweden Rock Festival, that the world realised what a live force Twisted Sister still were!

The band went on to re record their "Stay Hungry" album, stating that they were unhappy with the original production, and released it in 2004 as "Still Hungry". But these were not the only recording duties that the band members undertook. In addition to the new Twisted Christmas album, Jay Jay French and Dee Snider worked with Eurovision winners Lordi to produce and play on a few tracks on their "Arockalypse". "A Twisted Christmas" is released by Demolition Records on November 22nd.
