Extreme SMF Posts: 124 Location: Dublin | Has anyone seen Journey live recently? They are playing with Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Tesla here on Friday and I am just wondering if they will be any good. I love Whitesnake and wwill be rocking out at the front for them - but not sure whether Journey will be worth pushing up front for

I love Whitesnake and wwill be rocking out at the front for them - but not sure whether Journey will be worth pushing up front for Saw Journey in Holland along with TS, Kiss, Whitesnake, the Leps and more. Have to say Journey were "best of the rest" for me at that show - a real surprise as I hadn't seen them live before or paid much attention to them to be honest. The new(ish) lead singer is very good.

Extreme SMF Posts: 124 Location: Dublin | Thanks for the tips 're Journey lads. You were right - they were excellent. The singer is very likeable as he is such a young, happy, energetic kid rocking out with 4 old men. He certainly has a great voice too. Tesla were excellent also. Didn't know much of their stuff as I just hadn't checked them out before. Really tight with some great tunes. Whitesnake started very well, then died in the middle when Coverdale let the guitarists have a 5-10 minute ego trip but then recovered brilliantly to raise the roof with some of the old anthems. Dave's voice is still just about there but he does struggle with the high notes. Maybe he lets the guitarists wank around to allow him to rest his voice for a while. Leppard were very disappointing for me - I got bored and for the first time ever left before the set was finished. Elliot's voice was better than it was the last time I saw them (Graspop '08) but the whole set just seemed very flat.

Hi Mac, the current lead singer is Arnel Pineda (Sept 5 '67) born in the Philippines. He joined Journey on December 5, 2007.

Extreme SMF Posts: 156 Location: Toronto, Canada | Mac, You are not entirely incorrect. Jeff Scott Soto was Journey's vocalist for a few months. When they decided to continue on after a few years of being idle following Steve Perry's departure, they recruited Steve Augeri from a band called Tall Stories. He did two Journey albums (and and EP) and had a really strong voice. I really liked him. Saw them live 2x with him. Midway through the tour for the second album he did with them (Generations), his voice started to give out. JSS came in to finish the tour and he was reported to be their official new singer and working on an album with them. One day they announced that Arnel Pineda was their new vocalist. He is from the Philippines. He was in a Journey tribute there and Journey found him via a video on YouTube. I have the album he did with the (Revelation) and he is a good singer. I saw them last summer when they toured with Heart and Cheap Trick. Great triple bill. Arnel has a huge Philippino audience. I could not believe the number of Philippinos that came to the Journey to see him.

Nearly A Band Member Posts: 944 | jeff scott soto left journey in order to keep his friendship with neal schon and the others intact. they were having arguments over the direction of the new music and parted ways in order to remain friends. JSS did an album with some of the journey guys a few years ago under the band name soul sirkus
