Nearly A Band Member Posts: 2072 | http://www.wlav.com/goout.asp?u=http://www.rocklineradio.com/ Wednesday April 20, 2011 The Pinkburst Project Jay Jay French and Friends! Dave rounded the crowded Chelsea corner and effortlessly spotted the frayed auburn awning with the Olde English lettering that had welcomed thousands of patrons over the years. Chris immediately recognized his friend the moment he spied the well worn brown fedora. Who else chooses sparkled brown tweed for their top-o-the-rack chapeau? After greeting Chris with their usual assortment of low, middle and high fives culminated by fisting one another, Dave settled into his chair and noticed Hannah’s white cane outside the window tapping at chilly puddles on the rain soaked Manhattan sidewalk. Hannah, of course, had no such visual, having lost her sight almost a decade ago to an illness which at the time was unknown by the majority of the public, the dreaded uvietis. It’s difficult to fathom it wasn’t too long ago many Americans had never heard of the ailment, or that 10% of young girls blinded by disease in the USA became so because of this seemingly innocuous inflammation of the middle layer of the eye known as the uvea, or that it’s related to about twenty other maladies ranging from Kawasaki’s disease to garden variety Lyme disease. Unfortunately, the above paragraph is still little more than a dream. If you, a family member, or friend doesn’t suffer from uveitis the chances are you haven’t even heard of it, but one out of ten American girls going blind from disease are afflicted by this insidious sight snatcher. Twisted Sister’s Jay Jay French has firsthand knowledge of uveitis and has decided to do whatever he can about it. He’s involved in an auction of amazing musical instruments to benefit uveitis research and to grow grass roots awareness of this virtually unknown sense stealer. To learn more, head to pinkburstproject.org to see a dazzling display of pink guitars, amps and other gear soon to be sold to the highest bidders. Jay Jay’s daughter, Samantha, was diagnosed with uveitis at age six and has fought it with five cycles of chemo and an assortment of other drugs, some costing thousands of dollars per dose over the last decade. Can we change the future ramifications of this heinous disease? Think of it as arthritis of the eyes. It’s up to you, with a little help from Twisted Sister’s Jay Jay French (and perhaps a friend or two) only on the next Rockline! We wanna rock….and so we will….for a damn good cause too. | ||
