I've been contacted by an SMF who is not getting the scrolling tour dates script to display on the site. While this is a problem that has not affected too many of you, you may be among the group who can't see the tour dates.

That won't do.

So I went looking around to find a solution, and found it.

The Tour Dates script runs on a Java applet, which means you need to have Java capability installed in your browser. You can get the free download here:

Sun Microsystems Java Download.

They've got the free download and instructions on how to set it up there. Hopefully, this will take care of the problem for those of you who are experiencing it.

I'll leave this post here for a day or two, and then I'll move it over into the Instructions Forum.

wanna hear a real weird one, I hadn't even looked at the main page yet but after reading this post I went to check it out.

And in the tour box, yup theres a java applet running but it aint tour dates. It looks like a message from the old slam board, dated may 29th 2003 posted by Joe and entitled "complaints about me" WTF?!?!?!? LOL

By the way, I do have the latest Java installed, downloaded it two nights ago because I ran into the applet problem with my new job site.

Also, I'm having problems with random pictures just showing up all over the place.

You might want to abandon java for a simple text scroller and use javascript or a DHTML script Like this one to make it easier for people.

The only thing it's missing is the stop on mouseover, but I think I can live without that. Luckily, there's only been one instance of the thing not working, but it does seem to be making things go hinky here and there.

Thanks for the heads-up, and welcome to what I hope you consider a step up.

Yep, a huge step up. Even compared to the "old new board" that was tried a while back.

I'll definitely have more comments. I think the nested view is better than the flat view as a default thread view, because there's no divider between posts in flat view. Users can change that, etc, so not that big of an issue.

I would definitely like to go to my account and get a list of my (recent) posts. A user might post something in a thread then forget about it later, so it's great to be able to go back and see what I or any user has posted.

The rich text editor option for posting is excellent. Lets anyone easily do formatting. VERYUSEFUL.

Will be wandering around seeing what's what and giving feedback.

Thanks on the avatar.

You've been my fiercest critic (not without reason at times), and it makes me glad that you like the new setup.

The MBBS folks have a number of mods for this board. I integrated a few (the whole Avatar setup, for instance), but there's more to do for sure. I'll look for a 'latest posts' mod and see if I can add it without breaking everything.

The script you suggested has replaced the Java setup. For those who might go nuts trying to click the venue links as they scroll by (it was driving me nuts trying), I also added a '2006' pop-up link for a version that isn't a moving target.

Thanks again. Unpinning this thread now.

I just checked the Admin page - nesting messages isn't a default option for some reason. But as you pointed out, it's an option right there in the threads, so users can make the choice.

Any other feedback = welcome.

Other than the multiple "Donation" boxes for Charlie, I haven't noticed anything unusual. They are all over the place and in some threads there are half a dozen copies or so before the next message. They all appear to be working links as well.

Refreshing does not get rid of them.

And I also got a weird message inside the scroller the other day like you did.

Do me a favor and try clearing out your browser cache, reload and let me know if you're still seeing that stuff. I think doing away with the Java applet may fix it. Thanks!

Okay...

Emptying the cache got rid of the donation links. After they were gone, I realized they were in the place of the stars (denoting 10s of posts) under the avitar and in place of the E-mail link at the bottom of the post. The profile, PM, and www links were still intact. So MP had four donation boxes instead of stars etc.

I was not the one who experienced the weird message in the tour dates.

I answered your question of how I ended up in FL via the personal message function. Thanks for the help.
