So - 24 hours on and still no report from last nights show - that is partly because Marty is still travelling back home to Scotland, and Richard is travelling down to the West Country on work duties - leaving just 7 hours after Twisted left the stage last night - so I guess you are left with me to provide the details.

Well to put the show into context this look place at the Indigo, a 2,100 sized venue inside the O2. There were 4 bands present that played 15 minutes sets before Twisted closed the show wwith a 25 minute set. The show started at 7.00 with a good set by Buckcherry, then we had to endure the comedy compere then a set by Scorosis (I'm sorry - I'm sure this isn't spelt right - probably isn't even pronounced right - but not to matter - I wouldn't recommend them - they were quite a harsh noisy, growly, shouty band - probably good at what they do - just not my style of metal. Following a break we got the first set of awards habded out bu Alice Cooper - this included are ver own boys getting an award for 'Metal Inspiration' - call me cynical if you want but probably an award made up as they felt they needed to give Twisted an award as they were headlining - don't get me wrong - Twisted desreve the award - but I'm not sure this award has ever been given before.
Following a set by Devlin Townsend and then Skindred - we had more awards before Twisted closed the show.

With only 25 minutes to play they started with You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll before playing Shoot 'em Down, We're Not Gonna Take It, I Am (I'm Me) and closing with I Wanna Rock (inc I Wanna Fuck line). A good set - played well with 120% energy which everybody lapped up. It's just that 25 minutes isn't enough.

It was great meeting up with Marty - who travelled by bus through the night to arrive in London at 7am - before spending the day walking the streets of London - only to have the prospect of sleeping on a chair at London coach station before returning home this morning - spending 25 hours sat on a bus to see Twisted play for 25 minutes - a true SMF!!!!!! Equally impressive was Richards trip down from Newcastle before driving down to Devon for work meetings this morning - For those about to rock - we salute you!!! Good also to see RockyRandall, who nearly missed Twisted as he was going to spend time at the bar to miss Skindred - not knowing he had already missed them (as he was at the bar) - it was only the pink mike stand that pulled him back into place!!!

I'm now left with that empty 'post Twisted' feeling - made worse by reading the report of a great show in Hungary - inc Whole Lotta Rosie (and knowing so many of the SMF's are making the Greece shows - yes I've even looked, but the dates and the cost just doesn't work out for me!!) - but also due to my (?paranoid) thought that this may have been the last time I see Twisted. This then makes me feel guilty - I should be grateful and celebrate the 28 times I have seen the band - instead of longing for more. If this does prove to be my last show then I have some very very happy memories - but because these memories are so good - I want more of them - I guess only time will tell!!!! (oh sorry - I got a little emotional and off topic there!!)

Just home - long day (12+ hours on a bus and the driver didn't allow us off the bus to get food - boy was he unpopular!!) Dave's done a good job on the report, I had planned to do one on the way home but my Blackberry died on me!! Got plenty of pics so will post them tomorrow night when I can see straight!

Well worth the effort, it was a great show (as Dave said just a little short) - just a pity Lizzy didn't invite me in for breakfast since I was at Buckingham Palace at 8.20am!!

Right - I'm off to bed!!

I arrived in London at around 12pm and spent the afternoon in a great bar discussing with a mate the set that TS might play given they only had 25 mins. We got it all wrong as we thought a set consisting of the bands heavier stuff may be played, instead we got the 'hits'. It was short n sweet, but heavy and fun as I soaked it up at the front. Thanks Dave for helping bringing me round, yes the sight of the pink mic stand was very sobering! Good to meet up with Marty and SMF Richard, I really hope this is not the last UK TS set and we will meet up again.

Two of metal music's biggest names, and horror's top aficionados, met at indigO2 in London, England as Rob Zombie was presented with the "Golden God" by Alice Cooper at last night's (Monday, June 13) Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards ceremony. Appropriately in front of 1,500 metal devotees in zombie costume, Rob Zombie was honored for his career, which has spanned 26 years of the most raucous rock music and the most terror-inducing films. JUDAS PRIEST walked away with a long-overdue accolade in the form of the "Icon" award, celebrating their status as one the most influential acts in Britain's metal heritage.

Elsewhere in the awards, the much-hyped combination of METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX (a.k.a. the "Big Four") coming together this July for the first time ever in the U.K. at Sonisphere, was chosen by the fans as the "Event Of The Year", while the globe-conquering IRON MAIDEN collected yet another gong at this year's Metal Hammer Golden Gods in the form of "Best UK Band".

TWISTED SISTER, having performed earlier in the evening at the awards ceremony to rapturous applause, returned to the stage to be presented with the "Inspiration" award, while AVENGED SEVENFOLD did their native USA proud by scoring this year's "Best International Band". An award that recognizes artists who encapsulates all things metal, the "Spirit Of Hammer" was this year handed to DIAMOND HEAD, an act that can easily lay claim to having paved the way for the generations of metal acts that followed, and still follow them. With their 14th album and the first to feature the original lineup since 1982, KILLING JOKE's "Absolute Dissent" ripped through the competition to be honored as this year's "Best Album".

The axe-wielding members of the metal community saw their fret-board mastery celebrated in style last night, firstly Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein of heavy metal super group DOWN were awarded the title of "Riff Lords." Also making his mark was FIREWIND and OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist Gus G., walking away with the "Dimebag Darrell Shredder" award. In a category that saw a number of the nominees facing tough times, BEHEMOTH's Nergal was the recipient of the "Metal As F*ck" award, a show of recognition of the vocalist's strength and courage in the face of adversity.

The full list of winners from the ninth annual Metal Hammer Golden Gods are as follows:

* Best New Band - THE DAMNED THINGS
* Metal As F*ck - Nergal (BEHEMOTH)
* Best Underground - PRIMORDIAL
* Dimebag Darrell Shredder(s) - Gus G. (FIREWIND, OZZY OSBOURNE)
* Breakthrough Artist - SABATON
* Best UK Band - IRON MAIDEN
* Best Live Band - SKINDRED
* Inspiration Award - TWISTED SISTER
* Best International Band - AVENGED SEVENFOLD
* Best Album - "Absolute Dissent" by KILLING JOKE
* Event of the Year - "Big 4" coming together for first time ever in the U.K.
* Riff Lord(s) - Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein (DOWN)
* Spirit of Hammer - DIAMOND HEAD
* Icons - JUDAS PRIEST
* Golden God - Rob Zombie

Metal Hammer publisher Chris Ingham commented: "The worlds of metal and horror have always gone hand in hand, tonight they met face to face and it was an awesome sight. This weekend has been an extravaganza of heavy metal and we are honored to still be the true voice of the metal community in the U.K. and to end the weekend in style. Seeing metal legends and metal's new blood equally celebrated and awarded for their huge successes this year is something Metal Hammer are proud to make happen."

Rather embarrassed to say I can't actually remember the details of the speeches. Dee spoke first followed byJayJay and Eddie got a quick thank you in as well. I do remember they were quite good, as well as humerous and that unfortunately they managed to forget the award and leave it at the podium as they left the stage. Alice did offer to keep it but Dee ran back and collected it - oops!!
