What an awesome read. I loved this book and came away from it an even bigger fan of Dee. He's pompous, arrogant, and at times has an ego that would give Gene Simmons a run for his money but the fact that he acknowledges it and doesn't try to pretend to be anything else just makes me love the guy. What a great read for any and all TS fans.

Dee's ego over all has hurt the band in my opinion.I can remember back in 1980 at a club called the soap factory when he started yelling at the band onstage, about let's get with it, I'm kicking ass here and you're not! When they hit it big, instead of staying to the course,he wanted to move on and make solo albums, like LOVE IS FOR SUCKERS.I don't think the split was they hated each other,i think it was the four hating him! To this day the band would probably play alot more gigs at club's because they just love to play music, where he's more focused on his project's.

I enjoyed the first half of the book--I've said it here before, had a tough time reading about the decline, so I hope that Dee will write a second book about the rise back up. I give Dee props for openly admitting his role in destroying Twisted in the mid 80's, and as his intro said--his book is just one view of 5. I'm sure when Jay Jay writes his book, we'll get another side of the story. What is so significant to me is how in spite of all that happened--today they are playing and working together. There have been times when it has brought tears to my eyes, when I see the chemistry still between them. A band breaking up is a lot like the damage of a divorce ( with all of us SMFs as the kids, I suppose!). In Twisted's case they were able to do what so many bands (and couples) can never do--reconcile and play again.

And seriously--they are playing at a level today that is greater if not better than how they played in the 80's.

Wow. On the Brooklyn Odyssey video from 1980, he tells Eddie Ojeda, "You should be on the stage." On a recording from Rochester on the Stay Hungry Tour he tells A.J. to stop playing, and A.J. ends his drum solo early. In the Behind the Music episode, A.J. says that Dee was abusive.

I don't understand the part where Dee complains that he didn't have a guitar hero until Desperado. That's not the type of band Twisted Sister was. I found his ego to be hard to take.

Hey Rock10,
I will point out, however, that A.J. drummed for Dee on his solo tour before Twisted reunited, so whatever transpired between them he were able to put it behind him.

When Dee went out with the SMFS he had AJ on drums,so they did reconcile.I saw them at a club twice and he was happy to introduce AJ is back on drums!Dee still has the ego, he's just toned it down a little.

show me a lead singer who doesn't have a big ego....

he has always shown me and my S.M.F. friends kindness and generosity. It was miserable freezing cold, sub zero temperatures that day in Poughkeepsie NY, and yet Dee actually went out of his way to walk across the parking lot, directly over to the small group of us (Me, SMF Cyndi and MetalNY), talked to us for a few minutes, thanked us for coming, and signed autographs. (As did Jay Jay and Eddie)

What's in the past is history.
