Attention all S.M.F.’s,

Upon the recommendation of a dedicated S.M.F. by the name of (the real) Joe Rock (thank you, Joe for suggesting I do this), I want to take a moment to explain why you never find me visiting the TS slamboard. The answer is pretty simple: I obsess on negative postings.

Those of you who have seen me perform in the heyday will remember my obsession with getting people in the audience to react. I would spend entire shows searching out those in attendance who were not reacting and berate them endlessly until they either left, got into a fight with me or joined the “twisted celebration.” This was not an act. It is, was and still is my sickness. I would sacrifice entire shows--ignoring thousands of adoring fans--to go after one guy or girl who I felt was dissing me and the band.

When I go to a message board, I can read a thousand positive postings, but it will be the one negative slam that will stick with me for days after and occupy my mind. Why? I’m not sure. But it doesn’t make me feel good at all. And flame throwing assholes don’t deserve even a moment of my time. But I always give it to them.

Now back in the day, I thrived on that same anger and couldn’t wait for the next confrontation...but not anymore. After all those dysfunctional years, I’m enjoying being happy and well adjusted. But it doesn’t take much to set me off and bring me right back.

Now those of you who have seen me perform in recent years have witnessed none of that old Dee Snider hostility...and there have been more then a few people in attendance who weren’t “getting into it.” Well, in the past I would go out of my way to find those people in the crowd and tear them apart, but these days I don’t even bother to look for them and focus on the majority of you who are fired up to see the band. And I’m much happier this way.

But it’s not as easy to do that with the Slam Board. One has to read a posting to find out its contents and by the time I realize that a posting is negative, I’m sucked into the message and wasting valuable time and energy on people who don’t even deserve to be acknowledged. If I don’t read the negative messages, their mission has failed. The only way to achieve this is to not read any messages at all.

I’m sorry for that. I know you love me. I love you guys, too. There’s just no other way. I hope you understand.

Once a S.M.F., always a S.M.F.,

Dee Snider 8/06

Dee,
Thanks for your message, it's pretty amazing to hear directly from the sickest SMF on the planet!!
I understand completly your feelings on this subject and am glad to note that your a happier and more well adjusted DIRTBAG these days!!
I've seen TS live in 04, 05 and this year in Glasgow and your intensity as a frontman has not diminished one bit, simply put you FUCKIN RULE!!
And when you supported Alice Cooper at the SECC last year the guy in the front row, at whom you had thousands of SMFS screaming, "FUCK YOU!", probably would'nt agree that the old DEE SNIDER hostility does'nt make an appearance these days!!
Dee Snider: The Greatest Frontman Ever. FACT. Thanks for everything, LORNDOG.

Dee,

Saw you guys back in 1978 at the Fore "n" Aft , in Brewster, NY. 've been following the band ever since. Driving from Philly to see TS next week in Detriot(wife thinks I'm nuts). Everytime I see you guys, brings me back 25 years, and that same feeling will happen again, like always, in Detriot. Nobody gets the crowd going like you. I'l be the 6'5" guys wearing a YANKEE shirt.

A long time SMF,

John from philly!!!

Dee it takes a strong man to say something like you did, but did you forget... we are NOT JUST fans- we are a family, stronger then any Italian mafia! we are here not just because we love & respect each member of the band, but because we also love eachother and we will do anything to protect eachother, no matter if fellow fan or band member, we (the true fans) will strike down and kill any 'NON Twisted beliver!'. Our little disagreement's and silly arguements ALWAY'S goe's our way in the end because we fight for each other and We'll never let you down. I have seen many and joined in an attack on vermin, yet sometimes I never had to join, because there is always one who can win a fight, didn't you know your personality and influence joined with each member of the band rubs off on us?

Dee we all love you, and we all adore the idea of contact with JJ, M.A.M, Eddie, A.J and yourself, all of your contacts and responses are soo important to us all, we need you because it makes us feel like we have something that EVERY other fan will never have- we have the real truth right from the horses mouth as well as .. Hmm, how can I explain it- it seem's like the member's that kept contact have become more like special friends- now that's something no other band will bother with!!!- we have a favourite band that are NOT too snobby to communicate with the fans directly. We love that, and it keeps us together and strong.

Isn't that what being an S.M.F all about?

Well put Dee. It's terrible when you read negative comments about you or what you've accomplished in your life, most of the people that do that are just seeking attention. Remeber though man, it's only gonna be some pissant web geek that's leaving you negative messages. No SMF would ever do that.

SMF forever.

Wow Dee, so nice to hear from you directly. I certainly respect your position. Though, it seems to me that your most loyal of fans (those on the slamboard) have nothing other than high praise for you and the band! I admire your position of ignoring the a**holes. Really, that's all anyone can do. Right? ) Thank you for all that you give to us!

Hey Dee!

I completely understand where you're coming from! Every time I read a negative post on here, I usually just ignore it and move on. I do have a suggestion for all of the true SMF's out there regarding this, though.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THE NEGATIVE A-HOLE POSTINGS!!!!!

The problem is that the true SMF's always jump to the defense of the band, which is great!!! The problem with that, however, is every time someone responds to the A-hole, the friggin' post gets pushed all the way to the top of the list AGAIN!!!!! By responding, we are giving the A-hole exactly what he/she wants!! Simply ignore the email and have the strength to walk away without responding. Better yet! Start a new post that says something positive about the band. This will help push that bullshit post even further down the list and right off the page!!

There you go! Problem solved!

There have been posts here that ask why the band doesn't post and interact more here - but as far as I'm concerned, TS interacts to a greater degree with their fans than any other band I know. The simple fact that the members of the band even show up here and post is a cut above what other bands do on their sites. To have the band and management come here and post is a great thing, even if it's only once in a while.

Most of us realize that you all have very busy lives, and posting here is not the highest item on your 'to-do' list.

But TS' involvement with the SMFs is legendary, and that's what has made the people here fans for years. From the first days of seeing the band on the NY club circuit, it was obvious that you guys have always taken what you do very seriously. That even thirty years down the road, you still strive to give the crowd every penny's worth of what they pay to see you says that it is more than just a gig.

I always described TS as a band on a mission - with an absolutely relentless desire to give the best show possible, like every show is both the first and last the crowd will ever see. I've never seen the band 'phone in' a show, ever. It is just a given that TS will rock the house, every time. I've brought people out to Bent Brother shows who never saw the band back in the club days, and the reaction is always the same - the words 'best show I've ever seen' are always spoken.

And while I remember being at Hammerhead's and hearing you tell the guys in the back of the crowd to do you a favor and unbutton their top shirt button, that's not a fight you can wage forever. Some top buttons will, at the end of the night, remain buttoned.

Which gets back to the idea of 'The Mission' - you demanded 100% of yourselves every time, and you demanded 100% of those who came to see you. That's what rock and roll is supposed to be - turning a building or room or festival into an event that leaves the band and crowd both going away with the knowledge that they became something bigger than a band and a crowd in a building.

And while you guys always went for 100%, maybe you have to settle for 99%. No shame in that - it's still a hell of a lot more than a lot of bands have achieved.

And just like there were the guys who would not unbutton that top button, there are people on message boards that will be negative rather than positive. Choosing not to drive yourself crazy with the negative is a wise choice, and the band has done so much for us SMFs.

Anyway, I'm rambling. But TS has always been about going above and beyond the call, and you've never let us down.

Thank you for everything.
