Wow what a night. I'm sick as a dog right now and going back to bed but a brief recap. Joan Jett showed up with Carmen Electra as her date, so the night was a sucess from the get go. Hooked up with K-lo and Mp1975 from the board early and saw Joe Rock later on. Saw the mayor briefly a few times, she looked stunning (if I wasn't a married man...) The boys showed up in a stretch limo and the crowd went beserk. Inside Joan Jett got her award and she looked smashing. Peter Criss got his and was pretty gracious. Then I went out side for a while and met Billy Joel, Paul Shaeffer,Peter Tork from the Monkees, WWE Superstar Mick Foley (a long time TS fan, I saw him at the first BB show at the Downtown) and a host of others. Got back inside to see the boys get their award. Great to see Phil Carson and Fingers on stage with them, as both have been a part of TS history. The bands acceptance speeches were way cool. MAM and DEE busting on the rest of the guys for not being native Long Islanders. Then I sprinted (ok we all know that chubsy ubsy doesnt sprint anywhere) to the press tent for the press conference. Pure hilarity. The boys were cracking jokes (AJ telling reporters I'm not in the band,I'm here for the Bud Light had me peeing in my pants!) I'll go into more detal later, but I asked if 2006 was really the last year and in true TS fashion Dee and JJ both stated that you just never know!!! So the doors still open!!! It was truly a great evening and this news just topped it off.
I didnt stick around for the Jam, as the show was running like 2 hours late, but rumor had it that some of the boys would jamming.
Good bye, back to bed for me.

Where to start, SIMPLY AMAZING, where the hell did the time go!

Got there and met up with The Pope and KLO. Seeing the Pope dressed up was a SITE FOR SORE EYES and Ms Klo was absolutely ravishing and they both looked like they too should have been getting out of a limo walking the red carpet. Grabbed a bite to eat then onto the line of spectators watching all the Stars of the day getting out of their limos. Met up with Saber at this point and a nicer guy you cannot meet. We BS'd about TS for a bit, Sorry Mayor it just fit lol, then tried to figure out who all the stars we're getting out of the limos. We saw most of the people listed get out of the cars but if I, had a dime for everytime no one knew who th epeople were and they were automatically lumped into the Brooklyn Bridge 1 that woiuld be the bisggest band in history and you'd need a book just to list the revolving door of band members 2, I could retire! lol Need less to say there were many many people we didn't know until they were announced at the ceremony.

Next in the story is the Lady that has become known by many names through the years on the Slamboard(s) and our meeting was one of the funniest stories I have to tell and do tell it every chance I get our very own The Mayor or Donna Donna or DCT or Queen of the SMF's which probably worx best here caused she looked Regal and, Saber said it best, Stunning! It truely was going to be a special night.

Walking into the theater and sitting there waiting for the band to receive their awards you couldn't help but think where the hell did the time go. 30 years man seemed like yesterday they were playing covers or all pumped about INGUN, You know I had to get that in there someplace lol, and cursing the record companys for having broom handles up their ass. lol And not knowing shit from shineola about music. Always making the fans feel like they were included by giving us play to play updates in their battle for recognition. Well Boyz last night you reached the pinacle of all the years of busting your ass and hardwork put into this thing of ours and in my eyes no one deserved it more and it was a true honor and special feeling sitting there as you received your awards and having the floodgate of memories opened up from yesteryear to that moment. CONGRATS!

This is taking on arms and legs but I HAVE TO MENTION our very own M.A.M. was included in the Star studded ALL STAR JAM at the end of the ceremony and we all know how he can beat the shit out of his poor guitars and his usual style of metal musicianship it was a real eye opener to see the man play the blues. Going from one extreme to the other he played with such finess and, lack of a better word, softness that at one point The Mayor and I just looked at each other with jaws dropped and I know I was thinking WHO KNEW! He was still pulling notes from thin air and running his riffs but for a total different genre. ALL I can say is the man is a true well rounded musicians musician with many facets to his musical ability. SIMPLY AMAZING !

Lots more but I'll save some for the othetr SMF's to write about.

Have some pix I will post soon as I get the chance.

Holy Shit.........I am so sorry I missed this show. But as we all know, money does not grow on trees and I just could not afford to pay the $200 for a ticket to the show. It sure sounds like it was a show NOT to miss.

For all those that went, please post pictures on the board. Marty, Saber, Kathy, Donna, Joe Rock......please post as many pictures as possible.

If it's any consolation, I managed to buy the Billboard magazine issue with TS in it and looking forward to the Christmas album release tomorrow.

SMFs,

Sneaking quick post at work. Hope to post more after school tonight if my eyes are still open....One word that best describes my thoughts and feelings about the Boyz last night...

PRIDE!!

...more to follow

Ok, I'm back.  Just a few quick things to say about the night.  I know, you're saying to yourself, "D, we've read your posts.  They are not quick."  You're right. But thankfully Pat and MP hit the nail on the head in their posts, so there's not that much to add!

First, it was so nice to see and hang out with the fellow SMFs that were able to attend.  Joe Rock, KLO, MP, and one of the nicest people you on earth, Pat Egan.  Pat, thank you (and MP) for the very nice compliment, right back atcha!! Hope you are feeling better.  And Joe Rock looked so handsome in his big boy clothes, complete with bow tie and tux shirt.  Awww, I was so proud of him!

There's that word again, pride.  That was the theme of the evening.  Pride in LI, pride in where you come from (and not just geographically), pride in where you have been, and pride in where you are going.  Every time I looked at a member of TS, I was bursting with it.  I've seen the Boyz for many years, and in many different situations, and I have never seen them look so happy.  They looked like a family, like brothers, like warriors who had come through so many battles together and and lived to talk about it, and suddenly realized that everything they fought for truly ended up making a difference in so many lives. It didn't seem to me that they were happy about achieving fame or fortune, notoriety or recognition , but that maybe at that moment, when they were all on stage receiving their awards, maybe just for a moment they realized that they had a connection that no five people will ever make or ever share again.  I could be stretching it here, but it seemed to me that they were proud to be there with each other, and each of them was not proud of themselves, but of the others.  Maybe for a moment they realized that this was a band of brothers and friends and without each and every part, this thing of ours would never have happened.  Only the union of these five very unique individuals, each with their own distinct personalities and talents, could have made the phenomenon known as Twisted Sister become the entity that was being honored that night in front of so many of their peers.  It was magical, breath taking, and very emotional.  All for one and one for all.

The night held an air of appreciation as well.  Each member of TS came up and personally expressed their appreciation for the congratulatory thank you ad taken out by SMFs for the band in Billboard magazine. Some more than once or twice (cough-cough-dee-cough-cough)! I told Dee that it was not he who should be thankful, but we are so very grateful for everything TS has given over the past 30 years, it was the very least we could do.  And if I understood this correctly, Billboard said that never in their history has any fan base taken out an ad to congratulate or thank a band.  Well Billboard, you ain't never met the likes of an SMF before, nor have you ever dedicated any space to the greatest rock band of all time!  Had you seen the light earlier, we woulda been there then, too!  But I digress.

I'd like to close by thanking the Boyz for allowing me to share in a most special and magical night.  I would specifically like to thank MAM and the Lady Mendoza for making it all possible.  I will never be able to repay you.

I have never been so proud. It was so wonderful to see everything they've worked so hard for, all the blood, sweat (lots of sweat) and tears, all the turmoil and triumphs, finally pay off. I wore my father's dog tags to the event, because I knew he was proud, too.  He was watching from his easy chair in heaven, knowing that the choice I made 28 years ago was the right one. (That being, live home and no more following TS, or move out and do all the following I wanted, as long as I wasn't "under his roof" coming home at ungodly hours of the morning!) My Dad was my hero, and I know he's proud of my choice of new ones. Thanks TS, I am forever grateful!

DCT

PS...for those of you who are into this kind of thing, please take a look at the picture MP1975 took of the Boyz as they walked down the red carpet to enter the venue and see if you see what I see.  Pretty powerful and undeniable.

You're welcome Donna . The Dec. 2 TBA date looks promising as long as it's reasonably close & it looks like the Dec. 23 A/C date is gonna be a good old fashioned Rock & Roll weekend. Like my late teens / early 20's it's gonna be a Twisted sat. nite followed by a Giant game against the Saints on X-mas eve !! My Uncle Joe just moved to Cape May Courthouse and commutes to the Giants games. I guess I'll hook up with him early Sun. morning for the trip north with my ears ringing .......just like the old daze !!

9er,

Awesome!!  I know I'll be there on the 23rd, and Joe Rock will be, too. I think MetalMadLady will be there as well. I am hoping for something close to home on the 2nd as well.  I hope we get to see each other.  Sounds like you're going to have a great time!  But, isn't going to be cold out there watching the game???? You really are an SMF!!
